Nice car, I have one just like it (71' red vert). The Evap systm is the carbon canister mounted on the left fender well that absorbs the fuel vapors from the carb and tank. When you start the engine, the canister is purged via a vacuum line going to the intake manifold. If your 71' is stock, then you have it.
On the left side I have like a box shaped container, and a cylinder shaped one underneith it - I guess that's the stuff we're talking about. They are both connected with tubes to the intake, carb etc.
The box shaped one is the vacuum reservoir for the headlights, wiper door, heater controls etc. The cylinder shaped one is the carbon canister for the evap system. I think the owners manual might say to replace the carbon canister, but few do.
I bought this sticker, which headline is TO REDUCE FUEL VAPOR LOSSES THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE GM EVAPORATION CONTROL SYSTEM.
I've been looking all over in the Assembly Manual, the Service Manual and two restauration manuals but I can't find anything about where to put it in the engine compartment. The part number of the sticker is 3983361.
Any ideas?
If your sticker looks like the example, I think it goes on the cowel below the Engine tuneup sticker. Or that's where I put mine. Page 14 of the AIM has the stickers.
