I just purchased a 71 coupe (my first C3). Is the windshield wiper door suppose to open and close every time you start the car? Is there a way to disengage/keep that from happening? Thanks.

No, they are NOT suppose to open and close when you start he car. If you want to disable them untill you are able to fix them correctly, just disconnect AND PLUG both hoses that go into the "wiper actuator". That would be the round "disk like" shaped unit on the passenger side firewall. There is a hose on the front side and one on the back side. As I said, disconnect and plug them. You should be able to VERY carefully close the wiper door by hand. Further,assuming you do not have any leaks anywhere else in the vacume system, that actuator is most likely the culprit. But check for other leaks first before you start throwing parts and money at it. It can get a bit pricey and VERY frustrating.

It took me the better part of a summer to get mine to move at all. There are some here who would be happy to have your problem.
