68 conv. with a 96 LT1
A good friend of mine is thinking about putting a LT1 from an 96 Impala into his 68. Anyone have any tips/suggestions? He also wants to retain the use of his Muncie 4speed.

LT-1 Transplant
I've done several of these transplants. Most recently my 65 with a 4-spped and a 74 with a 700 R-4. Not to bad of a job overall. The 4-speed car was prety much straight forward. You can use the bell housing, drive shaft and X-member as is. You will need an electric fan. ECM programed and injection harness, (I used Howell Eng. Dev) O2 sensors in the exhaust, I converted the Tach to electric, I use pulleys from Street and Performance, (Vette Style), I used a 1990 Vette fuel pump and I put it in the tank, Ran a new fuel and return line, (Stainless). I'm probably missing something, But if you want to give me a call, I'll be glad to talk to you about this. If you are going with a 700R-4, its a whole different deal. Call days if you want to talk.
