Default Stupid valve cover question...

I feel pretty stupid for not being able to figure this out but...

Most aftermarket valve covers I see don't appear to include a hole for the oil fill cap. What is the deal?

Hmmm. Are you sure that you're looking specifically at valve covers for Chevys and for your year? Most of the ones that I've seen in catalogs such as Summit, Jegs, etc. all have the proper cut outs for oil filler and breather tubes. Might be that the pics are just generic and don't show the cut outs. A call to the selling company would clear up the question. Good luck!

Most valve covers come with one hole per side. A PCV grommet and valve go on one side and a breather grommet and breather go on the other side.

Usually the breather IS the oil fill hole. You just pull the breather out of the grommet, pour in the oil, and put the breather back in.

I have a '72 sb. Right side has the PCV cutout. Left side has both breather cutout and oil filler cutout. These are aluminum aftermarket covers.

You're right, SOME do have the oil fill cap, but in most cases after market valve covers will only have one hole per side.

what is on my engine is the old style intake, with oil fill tube in it, with a breather as a cap, and a PCV in each valve cover. i have no idea if that is a good set up or not, but the engine is apart at the moment, so i can always change it.
