Fuel tank assembly.
I bought a new 18 gal fuel tank to my car ( c3/73). I made the anti squeak pads of a 3mm thick rubber. I placed them under the tank and under the steel tapes.
I have now a problem with to bend the tapes so strongly, that the screw on the frame meet the threads in the tape. I can not put the tape in the appropiate hole i the rear part of the frame. There is a lack of about 5mm ( 1/5 inch).
Do you know any manner to pre - bend the tapes?
Is the rubber possibly too thick?

to my knowledge (and that's the way I installed my tank) the anti squeak pads just go betwenn tank and frame. No pads between tape and tank. Did the straps properly hook up in the frame? This picture may help.

Thank you for the information. Yes the Straps are hooked up properly.
After times in the garage and trying out many " tools" i find the source of this problem. The transversal impressions for the strips in the new "direct fit"
tank are too flat. This is the reason for the fitting problems. Now i wil try to bend the strips without the rubber under them.

The tank is taken out ( one more time), because of one more failure. The welded border is not bended round sufficiently and it was impossible to bend it mounted in place. To bend him wil give me some more milimeters + the border will not scratch the straps. I will use some thinner rubber.
Thank You for help!
