Tach Cable too long?
I put the small bronze adapter in the tach drive and then put in the tach cable. With the adapter in place, there is about 1/8 of an inch that does not go into the tach drive and does not allow the tach cable to fit flush against the tach drive. If the adapter is not in place the cable goes directly into the tach drive a sits flush against the drive so I can screw in the tach cable.
Any thoughts? Is there a way to shorten the cable 1/8 inch? I don't think there is.
I’m not sure why the cable would be to long, but if I remember correctly when you install the MSD distributor you have an extension with a tang on it for the distributor. This tang rides in a slot in the MSD coupler and provides the drive for the cable unlike the GM distributor which has a square hole for the cable.
You can shorten the cable but you can not do it by cutting it. If you cut it with wire cutters or something similar, you will fray the end of the cable. You can take a bench grinder and grind the 1/8” you need and not fray the cable then slide your end over it.
