I`m putting a q-jet for a 71 auto shift on and I`m not sure where the vacuum lines all go. It had a 7042220 carb on it and 2 of the lines are capped I would like to do it correct so I`m putting a 7041212 on it .If some one has pics that would even be better. but all help will be greatly appreciated .THANKS ALOT Ya`LL ARE GREAT HELP
On my 72, the line from the vapor canister to the pcv valve to the carburetor goes to the bottom front driver side vacuum port; the power brake booster goes toward the middle of the front of the carburetor and is clamped on; the small rubber line from the vapor canister goes directly to the passenger side front port; the passenger side carburetor port, towards the firewall, I used for the newly reinstalled vacuum advance canister hookup. This is probably clear as mud, and may not be correct, but someone else will probably correct me so we will both come out ahead....
I believe the pvc hoses are the same for 71-72. The spark control hoses are different because the 71 has a CEC solenoid on the driver's side of the carb, while the 72 had a TCS solenoid on the passenger's side of the carb. Dr. Rebuilds catalogue has some good drawings for how the hoses are routed. Dobbin's 68-72 Fact Book has good photos that show the routing, too.

gq82,
Great pictures of your engine. Love that small block!!!! Pictures really are worth a thousand words.

Alan
PS: I notice that your thermostat housing doesn't have recesses in the base, my 71 doesn't either. I've always been led to believe that it should have the recesses.?!.?!.

Thanks Alan...don't know what you mean by recesses in the thermostat base....
EDIT: Alan, I went back and checked my judging sheets from an NCRS regional show and the thermostat housing and fasteners were judged to be correct...no points deducted so I'm wondering who's telling you it's incorrect.
gq82,
I'm looking at item #6 in section 21 on the judging sheets, and referring to page 84 in the 4th edition Tech Guide. I see the housing with and with-out the recesses around the bolt holes in the base. Does your housing have a part # you can see or is it covered up by the radiator hose? Some have the # on the flat horizontal area of the flange.
One last question, about when was your car built? Mine is #6589, a mid-January car.
Regards,
Alan
