This was one of the first thing I replaced on my '73. My fiberglaas came from J & D Corvette and line up well. I did hve to do some filling and sanding to get it to look right. But the general line up was good. Canyou elongate the holes to allow you to move the bumper to where it lines up. I just looked at my AIM and only shows the top row of bolts that go from the one retainer thru to the body. Seems the only way it would not line up is if the holes are off. Do you have some photos. Been so long since I didthis one that the main problemI remeber was getting up top to all the little bolts.

Are you using the original bar with the bolts welded to it? I had to grind the top edge off of the bar so that it would let the top of the bumper move down.

Default fiberglass bumper

fiberglass bumpers can be a pain to install maybe rethink that great deal. though 1/4 inch is not too bad should be able to enlarge holes a little and with a little patience get it to line up.i have never had one fit perfect from the box even had to cut in middle and reglass a couple of times the 75 and up are the worse.we tried flex gold it was better but still needed work it does not flex like you would hope.remember to modify the bumper not the body i have seen nightmares where the body was modified to fit bumper.good luck

Yeah, I feel you pain...same here when I did my 75. Not sure if your year is the same but I had to grind away the "cushion" under the bumper with a grinder. I put blue chalk dust on it and then put the bumper on to see where it was hitting then ground some more. Had to lower the brackets also and even grind some of them to get the brackets low enough. One of the worst jobs I've ever had to do on a car. Good luck with it. Stay away from alcohol if you have a temper!!
