a lot of people have dyed their interior, and love it. Me included. It will work, but prep is everything....
You need to clean the parts up, then lightly sand them(very lightly), then clean and use a vynal prep, then when you paint, do it in about 10 very very light coats, allowing time between each coat...if you do one heavy coat it will fill in the "cracks".
