Default mechanical fuel pump
Shoudl I be able to manually pump my new mechanical fuel pump by apply pressure to the lever?

I doubt it, they are pretty stiff.

Why not, its mechanical. Just press the arm and you should feel some air pressure. Or put a hose on the pump and watch it pump the fluid out. Water would work and not damage the pump in any way....
