Will static electricty in the fiberglass body have any effect
on paint job? If so, how do you get rid of it?

Thanks in advance. glassman74

a friend of mine who has painted a couple of corvettes before told me that you have to ground the body to get rid of the static before you paint. Don't know if its true?

I've done several body off restorations and painted the cars off the frame. I've never had to ground the body to paint them.

Yes it's a good idea to ground a car before shooting. The air and moisture from the paint moving over the body panels generates static electricity. This is bad if you have a lot of dust and trash floating around as it'll get sucked onto the body if it floats too close.

The grounding is easy. Just use a chain, dropped over the rear spring, and maybe the front suspension so it lays on the floor and contacts the frame, engine, and body...assuming all your ground straps are installed and in good shape.
