I have a 69 that I am rebiulding. The seat belt retainers located under/by the door sills, are they they placed on top of the carpet or under the carpet. If under the carpet, are slits cut in the carpet for the seat belts. Thanks for your help

The seat belts on my 69 are on top of the carpet. Just a hole thru it for the bolt..

I believe the retainers are under the carpet and the carpet is cut for the belt to pass thru.

Thanks, Is the retainer that has three bolts through it on top of the carpet also? The retainer is next to the door sill near the back of the seat. Thanks agian for the help. J

It seems that some have the seat belt above the carpet and some have it below the carpet. Can any body else weigh in on this.

I believe that from the factory they were below the carpet. I also believe that there was a plastic edging piece that finished the slit in the carpet- however few cars have them.

I installed them above the carpet and I would say it could be very hard to install them properly below the carpet (especially near the door sills).
