Opened AC system any good?
My AC compressor was removed prior to me buying my 79.
The rest of the system is complete.
The rubber hose that connects to the compressor has been left open/unsealed.
Can the system be hooked back up without issue and work properly?
I've been told that a system left open is no longer any good and I've been told it can be "flushed"?
Which is true?

I haven't worked on auto a/c systems for a long time, but I believe you could replace the drier, put on a new compressor and pull a good vacuum and you should be ok.
The vacuum and charge aren't something for a DIY job, take it to a good a/c shop.
Good luck

Yes, it can definitely be flushed, and in your case, I would do it several times. I would also replace the hoses and the dryer/accumulator as well as the expansion tube. If you are lucky, you should be okay once the system is verified to be leak free.
The problem with leaving a system open is that dirt, bugs, etc., can enter it along with air. Air, of course, contains moisture and it together with refrigerant gases can begin to corrode/eat aluminum. The evaporator and condenser are made of this and this together with dirt being an issue are reasons why an a/c system should be sealed. Good luck!
