Default Tach drive delete ???

I have done searches on this until my eyes are bleeding. I am converting over to an electronic tach. I need a plug for the opening in the distributor where the old tach drive cable went in. Does anyone make such an animal? Any help is appreciated.

Cut the end off the old Tach cable, JB weld the hole shut and let it dry, screw it on.

That sound like brushing up against bubba. I might do that if there isn’t an aftermarket plug or something. I can’t believe that this isn’t a question that has come up more.

Another option would be to remove the tach drive gear, tap the hole in the brass tach cable adapter and screw in a plug.

I am trying not to damage the original. but a good idea

That would be the thing to do, but I just switched the original over to electronic and this thing is breaking me 50 to 100 dollars at a time.

I am thinking about trying to find a large plug like a vacuum cap and screw it on. I wouldn’t think it would be under any pressure. What do you guys think?

I’m tired of the jumpy tach and the PIA of getting it hooked back up when I pull the dash. I had a 76 tach and thought while I’m at it I will change it too.

Well, the first one is a maintenance problem. Have you ever put any lube in the cable sheathing? And, just how often do you pull the dash?

I lubed that thing like a hooker on saturday night. It seems I am pulling the dash on a regular basis. The latest dash pull was because of a vacuum leak. the one before that was to fix a bad light switch and the one before that was to find out why the tach wouldn’t work. It seems like every thing I do involves pulling the dash. So this time I am going to convert the tach while I have it out.
