My automatic transmission has a clicking noise in first gear only. As the car starts to roll the clicking noise begins and speeds up with the RPM until the shift to second gear where the noise goes away. I changed the trans oil and filter to no avail. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
All you have to do is bump the old thread to the top with a post instead of starting a new one.
As far as the clicking, you need to isolate it as best you can. If you put the rear suspension up on jack stands, and put it in first gear while running, will it make the clicking?
If you can duplicate it you might be able to gather whether it's a front or back kind of thing.
Final though, instead of putting it in 3rd, put it in 1st gear and see if it ticks no matter the speed or RPM. Then shift into second and see if it goes away.
With six u-joints under the thing I would be removing all of them unitl I was satisfied that there was not a bad one.
If you do follow dboy's advice and put it up on stands, try to support the trailing arms or else take it easy because the angle of an unsupported trailing arm is too great and binds the joints.
