Default TH350 removal

I have a 1977 with a TH350. How high off the ground does the frame have to be to allow the transmission to be removed? The transmission jack I will be using is a little over 8 inches high when completely lowered.

Thanks

I had my car about 22" up off the ground. There was MORE than enough room. I used 4 (2 sets) of the large orange/white jack stands from harbor freight sales, got them for 20 a set.

It only has to be high enough to allow the tranny to slide out from underneath the car which isn't that high due to the frame rail kick up behind the front tires. You may have to slide it off the trans jack to get it out from under the car if you can't jack the car up as far as you would like.

I don't think you can get the car high enough on jack stands to roll the trans out with the jack under it. I usually put cardboard on the floor and slide the trans out. Take the converter out and the trans is easy to handle after that. I still have to tilt the back of the trans up to lower the bell housing end enough to get under the frame.

Oh and be sure to plug the tailshaft unless you like big messes.
