Default Pls help w/ Rocker Arm Setup

Continuing the rebuild of my 427 -> 496.

I was measuring for pushrods today and was able to get the least amount of side to side movement of the contact point with +.100 on the pushrod length.

It appears that my rocker is staying close enough from the edge to avoid wear. The rocker starts lightly outboard of center, moves further outboard and return to the same spot where it began. I am hoping that the furtherest outboard travel is not too close to the edge.

I have attached a picture of the rocker at it's most outboard travel. Does this look to be far enough from the edge?

Thanks for your help here.

Can you show a pic of the pattern on the valve? Color it with a marker and run it through its travel a couple of times. How wide is the pattern on the valve.

To me that looks a little too far out. Are those stock heads?

Thanks for responding Jim. Long story here, but I was introducing errors into my process. I don't have the poly locks for the rockers yet and was using a head bolt with washers in place of the rocker stud. The bolt was tilting back and forth. I found a different way to do it with the rocker studs and used the marker on the valve tip. The markings on the tip are bit off center, but not a lot. Maybe .120 - .140 from the edge.

I was rushing this so that I could get my push rods ordered. It looks like I get the best pattern with pushrods +.100" from standard. I wound up getting the Brodix RaceRite heads. Thanks for your guidance with the selection. I also wound up with one of Harold's cams (255/263 @ .050.

Yep..little changes will mess you up!

If it's slightly past center at full lift or if the pattern is barely outside it will live. Of course getting a narrow patten and having it stay centered can be tricky. Are you mocking up with the same head gasket you will use?

You're looking for the least movement and as close to centered as possible. The sweep is a little more important than the exact centerline. I've seen the use of lash caps help by *lengthening* the valve a little.

Finished sizing up today. The pattern is narrow (no lift to full lift ends in same place). The pattern on top of the stem has the inner edge about on center and the outter edge .100" from there. I sacrificed the centering to get the best pattern/movement. This should be Ok, correct?

I used the old head gasket (same as new), as it was already compressed.

Thanks again for your assistance.
