Default starter problems with a 74

Does anybody know how to completely bypass the iterlock system? I checked the wiring on the starter 2 of the posts are hot but the purple wire is not. I traced the wire to the interlock switch on the relay in the engine comartment. Tryed the jumper method but not of the connections were hot. I figure its something with the wiring under the steering column. Has anyone redisigned this system? I kow the engine works it ran on the dyno. I guess it could even be a fuse. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes you can. A screw driver in an emergancy has worked for me years ago. Just jump from the large lug, battery to the S terminal. A 12 volt to the S terminal will work.

Be careful doing that, make sure it's in neutral cause you're gonna make it crank. Your problem could be the neutral safety switch.

You can slide the seats foward, disconnect the connectors under the seat and you will have the starter saftey switch in play but you don't have to buckle up to start the car. If you want to jump the switch under the hood let me know and I'll give you that info, PG.

alright I figured out the starter problem with a jumper wire on the interlock switch. She turns over and more. Im thinking i need to rotate my rotor in the distributor. She strugled and then fired up. When I say fired up I had a fireball shoot up out of the carb. once I put out the fire the only damage was I need a new carb gasket. How do yo know which one the rotor needs to point to. If I zero the timing mark does it need to point to 1? At least it barked sorta. Ill have to post the video.

rotor in dist lines up with cap terminal # 1, but you must be on # 1 compression stroke with pointer at 0.

So let me make sure I got you. If the pointer is at 0 on the timing mark on my balancer, then the rotor needs to point to #1.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram ro the starter? My starter cranks
when I hookup the battery without the key. I replaced the starter but it still does it. I think it has to do with the wiring on top of the steering column but It's nearly impossible to get to it and I don't know
how to trace the problem.

Thanks,

Mike
