Deseling,fast idle, stuck on throttle return
I drove my vette today for about 70miles after about 40 miles in to trip the car started to idle at 1700 rpm's. The throttle on return stops just before it touches the fast idle screw. When i apply alittle pressure it clicks then goes the rest of the way. Do I need a new return spring or carb rebuild? This is a tri-power setup

Can you tell if the choke is open all the way, maybe there is a malfunction with the fast idle cam associated with the choke. The fast idle cam may be sticking a little, can sometimes be cured with some spray carb cleaner.

I'm not exactly sure how it's set on your carbs, but on most, it causes the engine to idle faster when the choke is on to help with engine warm up. Usually it is a mechanism on the opposite side of the carb from the accelerator linkage. If you disconnect the accelerator cable from the carb and it still does not return to the idle screw, then this may be the problem.

Another Thought
Not sure if '70 Vette's have this feature, it is on '71's, an anti dieseling and de-acceleration solonoid. It's controlled by two relays under the dash. If the time-delay unit failed it'd hold the throttle open longer than expected. Just a second thought.
