Default Temperature sensor question

Temperature sensor question (pics)

I installed the temperature sensor into the head. It came with a ½ inch adaptor to fit the sensor. However, the adaptor doesn’t go into the head all the way and the sensor doesn’t thread into the adaptor all the way. Is the normal? Will it get a good reading?

Thanks

The threading is actually tapered so you get a tight fit when everything is threaded in place. Did you use any kind of thread sealant? If not, remove them, and install again using an Indian Head or Permatex type high temp sealant. They will still stick out like that, but they won't leak.

As said above it is a tapered thread called a pipe thread. This is the way it is designed to work. If it goes in all the way something is wrong. Just a little sealant on the threads and you should be good to go.

Did mine yesterday, looks the same way.
A little teflon sealer, no problems.

It's preferable for the sensor to extend further into the coolant for an accurate reading, but that will still work. If you are concerned about it, there are pipe reducer bushings available without the hex nut on them and will work to get the sensor in further. There have been threads on this forum about the sender from a different year,(earlier) that has the 1/2" pipe thread on it, but I'm not sure if it is matched to your gauge or not.
