Default Heat barrier/insulation mat?

Howdy all, just got my '81 back on the road, and I was wondering what brands/styles of insulation you've all used for heat-proofing. I'd like to buy something to insulate the floorpan and trans tunnel areas - I have some heavy duty fireproof mat, but it seems a little thick at 1/2 inch to put under carpeting.
Whats' the best? Cheapest?
I'd love to dip on down to Jeg's today and get something, but sometimes their prices are a little high - maybe there's a better place, ebay maybe?
Thanks!

SEARCH, SEARCH, SEARCH!
There are many threads on this. Try searching for Reflex. That seems to be the popular one.

LOL
Ahhh, the ol' search function - - pardon my lunch hour excitement, I kinda forgot all about it . Well, it gave me an excuse to say hi then lol.

I think I've found what I was looking after the nanosecond it took me to do the search.
Thanks

I just put this under my carpet.. You will need to cut. Run it up the floorboards to the firewall. and in tran tunnel. It says it cuts with scissors, but you will need some shears.. it is pretty tough on the outerlaying.
Use 3M adhesive.

Pretty inexpensive. Keeps heat at bay.. I used to have that thing foil stuff I got when I bought the carpet kit. That stuff is garbage!!

1 roll will do your floorboards and tunnel with some left over.

I am putting down a layer of Dynamat Extreme with a layer of Reflectix over it for heat.

I'm very happy with Refectix insulation. I was going for light weight above all else, and it works great. I did my entire inside pan and inside the tunnel above the transmission.

Thanks for all the replies so far!
I been seeing lots of pics where the dash is completely out, and the firewall can be easily covered - but what do you do when you're driving the car still? It doesn't seem like there's lots of acreage under there to maneuver around. Can I still get good protection without taking all that apart?

I was able to go up to the heater-A/C box and well under the pedals as well. In fact, I had to trim it a bit so it wouldn't show out from under the carpet. I probably could have painted it if it mattered that much to me.
