Just remember that WD40 is not a lubricant. It may free up the little plastic tab that actuates the key warning buzzer, but you will need to insert a little lubricant into the lock cylinder for long term operation.
An engineer at Delphi Saginaw indicated to me that one drop of synthetic motor oil on the tip or your ignition key was a good lubricant. Others have mentioned a little dry graphite powder.
