Default Transmission Question
Hey Everyone, I have a 76L-48 Auto, problem is that the car will not shift out of gear??? Could a cloged trans filter be the cause?? The car has 92,000 original miles never been beat on.

Do you mean that the shifter won't move? Or does the car try to go after you put the shifter in park?

When I drive down the street it will not shift on its own like it should.

Beyond the obvious, fluids linkages etc. First thing that you should check is the governor. It may have a bad gear or be stuck. That will usually cause it not to shift from first to second or it will just shift out into neutral.

Will it shift by manual selection, first,second, etc...?

Check modulator valve vacuum line.

when is that last time you checked the level of the fluid. look at that, i had a similar problem and it was the fluid.
