Some of you may remember my thread on the intermittent starting problem I have. Well I was adjusting the timing today and the car cut off. There is NO POWER at all. No horn, no lights, no clock, nothing. Any ideas?? A guy at work told me on older cars if a fusible link burns out the car will lose all power. I just need some ideas on where to start troubleshooting. Thanks
I used to have issues with my bulk connector. This is the connector that connects the front and rear wiring harnesses.. Caused me a lot of headaches. I'm glad that my car is completely re-wired now..
I had a power issue before also, checked everything, fuseable links fuses ect. I did have a blown fuse after changing it I still had no power to the car. Once I disconnected and reconnected the battery everything came back to life... do this 1st to see if any power is restored
I'm feeling a little foolish and a bit embarrassed. I think sometimes because we (I) work on cars so much we (I) sometimes tend to over anaylze a problem when you (I) should just start at the beginning.
Having established this weak defense, this is what I found. The positive battery cable had loosened up just enough to sometimes pass current and sometimes not. I always disconnect the negative when I work on the car but I never check the positive. I have to give myself some credit though, it was the first thing I checked today. Yesterday when it happened I just pushed it in the garage and got on the forum to solicit help.
