Default How do you make a manometer

I am trying to balance my throttle bodies. I have found several articles that talk about using a manometer and adjusting the idle so that it pulls 6" inches of water but I can not find any articles about how to make the manometer.

Can anyone point me to a post that will help me out?

Thanks,

Obie

Take a board mount a clear hose on the board in the shape of a U. Have one end of the hose go to the connection the other end is open to atmosphere. Fill the hose with some water or windshield washer fluid. Mark where the liquid sits as 0", measure up every inch and make a mark. Pressure will increase the water level in the hose.

Check out the Crossfire Injection Vault...I use to visit this site often, and need to start hitting it again. Lots of really good info on all that is the Crossfire.

Good luck!

You guys are awesome. Thanks a bunch.

It looks like two designs:

Celeryman - This approach is to check one TB at time. I can handle that. First do the rear TB and then the front. The water should move 6" from the starting point.

MN-Brent - This design connects to both TB's. So the water should be even. I will try this approach after I try Celeryman's.

I think if you have one end open to atmosphere, you will suck in all the water into the throttle body and down into the engine = NO GOOD.

You must have the manometer connected across both throttle bodies (there are ports in the rears dedicated to this task) and you are looking to balance the difference between the two.

Brent may be right, I have never tried a manometer with vacuum. However, if the manometer is tall enough and the TB only sucks 6" of water then in theory as long as the tube connected to the TB was atleast 6" above the water level it shouldn't get sucked in right???

Steve posted a thread on how to build a manometer with instructions. I guess he did not see this one.

I balanced them today. You do it both ways. Each throttle body is balanced to 6" difference with the line open to the atmosphere. It does not suck the water out if you connect to the Middle vacuum connection on the TB.

Then you connect the manometer to both at the same time. Then it should be level.

It is a rather cool exercise.

Thank you all for helping me out.

remember that from your zero line, you want to read 3" above.
the u in the tubing will be 3" above on one side and 3" below on the other side making a total of 6".
