headlight assembly stuck

headlight assembly stuck
i am attempting to take the headlight assembly out. I have the right side grill and bumper guard out, do i have to take the actual bumper off? Also, the headlight wont retract anymore, it is stuck in the up position, but the actuator isnt connected, whats going on?

What year? If it is the vacume actuated assembly, there is a peice in the middle...where the headlight warning switch plugs in...if you pull gently on that it should unlock the headlight and allow you to close the assembly. The whole thing should fit through the front of the car but it takes a little wiggling...hope you are planning on re-painting? I had no luck getting them in and out without a little push and shove.
