Hi gang! I just installed rear bilstein shocks and although the ride has improved the new shocks have raised my rear up to about 1" to 1-1/2" I like my ride a little lowered for thatclean tight look and road hugging performance. Will the bilstein settle some and sit the car back to pre bilstein shocks height?
Those of you who have installed bilstein shocks what is your experience on this matter?
Use them for awhile they will come back down, their gas charged but not enough to keep the rear end up for very long. Mine settled back after about 500 miles

Thanks GVE, since I live on an island (Oahu, Hawaii) getting to +/- 500 miles will take a while. But it's encouraging that you have actual experience with the Bilstein settling down lower.
I was looking at ways to bring the rear end back down again.

Aloha!
Get the longer bolts for the spring if its going to take you along time to get 500 miles on them lower to your height you like and check it in 500 miles if it has dropped then raise it up.............

Aloha!
Just drive from sandy beach to turtle bay several times next weekend, might make a hundred or so miles AND that two lane road will help settle those shocks....

That's what I did when I bought my rear fiberglass monospring ( VBP ) & Bilstein sports. The longer bolts let you adjust the ride height low enough.
The Bilsteins alone didn't change the height too much, but the monospring DID !
Same question as 71406, did you install the sport or HD? I've got the Sport on all four corners without an issue. Initially only installed on the rear when switching to a composite spring then new 17" rims & tires. Installed the front set and it made a world of difference in handling.
Yes, I drove mine and have put about 100 miles on it. Ride height is still higher than before the shocks were installed. Again, I purchased the heavy duty not the sport. Could that be why? The original poster started this thread in 2008 so I thought I would reply to his thread to see if they have settled down.
I have a 360 mono spring and 1 in shorter 550's in the front with Bilstein HD's in front with the Bilstein sports in the rear and the rear will settle after a few hundred miles with the Bilstein Sports. The rear composite spring has more of an effect on ride height than the shocks in my case.
i've read where those shocks have a 2ton lift capacity to them. that could be the reason for the height problem is that they are way too stiff for the car itself.
