I am running Dynomax Super Turbo's on my 73. Police been been by the house twice already because of noise. If I installed a H pipe would that lessen the noise a bit or should I just go to new muffler's, like maybe flowmaster 50 series?

Re: H-Pipe question (Blake-73)
I don’t see how Dynomax turbos could be that loud. They are certainly quieter then Flowmasters (not to mention sound better). Yes, an H-pipe will help by killing some of the resonance. Go with that and tell your neighbors to stick it.
The car really is'nt that loud, but I got a bad habit of fooling around with it in the driveway at night. Plus, my wife says she can hear me for a mile away when I am runing it out, which I am also in the habit of doing at night because of less traffic.
Last police office that came by actually was cool....was real interested in the car, but said I can not let it sit and idle after 9 pm. So now I just drive it and make sure I goose it real hard when I go by the house on my street that called the police.
I hope the H-pipe works...Are Super Turbo's really better sounding than flowmaster 50 series?
Why not just be a good-guy and behave better around the house? Maybe they got small kids or something. IMO it's not worth pissin' off the neighbours... after all you have to live somewhere.
Where did you place the x-pipe? I heard an X pipe will actually make the exhaust louder and was told to go with an H-pipe instead. I was looking at the X pipe originally anyway..Glad to hear what you said.

Re: H-Pipe question (John Dirks)
I'm interested also in which method is better, X or H.
The H seems like it might be easier to install.
Anyone with experience on this out there?
I ran an X pipe in the car below before they were manufactured by anyone that I can remember (about 7 years ago) and I swear by them for serious performance cars... if made properly. I fabricated my own paying meticulous attention to exhaust flow and would opt for my own design again over the mass produced X pipes. Either way, I'd say they have an advantage over H pipes in flow characteristics and scavenging.
It was Chevy High Performance or Car Craft that made a comparison on the two a few issues back. The x-pipe produced more power than the h-pipe. Some say the x-pipe has a higher pitch sound whereas the h-pipe is lower. In our Vettes, the easiest and best place for the H-pipe is right behind the trans crossmember. I see in the Jegs catalog, they have an extended length H-pipe for $165 that might be worth looking into.
I think the X is more efficient but harder to do on our cars. I know that you can buy H-kits from places like Summit for ~$35 or so. I'm planning on one in the spring.
I had my X put right behind the crossmember. I bought the X pipe from Jegs and had Midas Muffler put it on. They charged me $135 which included them using the 45 degree pipes to go in and out of the X , and they welded everything on. It looks very professional the way they did it. ANd , it made a difference on the performance and sound. Its a quieter more resonant sound .... and i even have Headers. Its great at higher speeds cause you dont even hear the exhaust much so i can hear my radio now. The article in that magazine defintely said to go with teh X, cause of sound waves , equalizing pressure effect , and exhaust stroke scavenging. It actually increases the volumetric efficiency of the cylinders which accounts for the performance increase. I think i paid Jegs $159 for thier 'X' kit. An H doesnt work as well, but will help somewhat.
