Default AC install

Is it possible to install the front AC housing without removing the engine (1972, 454)?

Not sure just what you are referring to but if your question pertains to the evaporator box, the answer is yes.

I didn't say it was easy, as it's a tight fit. Good luck!

you are dealing wiyh 3 big pieces, evap case, heater boxand the metal piece the blower bolts to.if your heater box is installed, leave all the hoses and cables hooked up and pull it out far enough so as little as possible is sticking through the fire wall.to do that you will need to take the metal piece off the firewall, you need all the roon you can get.once that is out of the way you can slip the evap case in ,you will also need to remove the wiper door servo and bracket. when all the pieces are in put the heater box back in place ,then the metal piece.put all the bolts and screws in but don't tighten anything up yet, the evap case should be nearly in place so just start all the bolts and the tighten everything up . don't forget to put strip caulk on all the joints, after all that work you want it sealed up good.

My current set up is a kind of DIY heater, installed by one of the previous owners.
First install the inside? I have a AC seal kit, how does strip caulk look like?

You can pick it up at Home Depot. It is small diameter caulk strips.

take the inside loose and pull it out of the way, that gives you just enough room to slide the evap case in.once you have the outside parts in roughly the right place, put the inside piece back in , then finish the outside.
