Thanks for your questions on unleaded gas. Is it worth putting the K&N air filter on my 74 L82 to improve performance and I have seen several pictures of engines where people have taken away the rubber seal around the filter. What does everyone think??
:chevy
Replace the filter and lid with the K&N but keep the seal. the hood seal allows cooler air to be drawn in from the windshield area under full excelleration. I used the 11" lid on top of the 12" filter.
I recently put a K&N filter in mine.
I didn't notice any change performance-wise, but I don't regret putting it in.
It's nice that it's reusable and if, even in theory, it lets my engine breathe better, I'm happy.
When talking about the K&N filter when I had my engine rebuilt it was in the opinion of my rebuilder that it's true K&N let more air in but more dirt also into the engine.
My rebuilder is well known and respected.
Been performance building engines for over 25 years.
He's seen this on motorcycle engines that had K&N's that race on dirt tracks when he has rebuilt the motors.
He said the way my vette is used it shouldn't be a problem.
I've read things like things before on internet sites and magazines.
I still opted for the K&N anyway on all my vehicles. No dirt roads or dusty conditions in my area.
