Default Head Light Warning Indicator

Should the red indicator light on the center gauge cluster stay on when the head lamps are on ? Or should it go off after after a while ?
I rarely drive my 73 at night and can't remember if it is supposed to stay on, my neighbor has a 71 and he says my head light door switches may need adjusted or replaced. I am at a loss on this.

As soon as the lights are in the locked up position the light should go out. The switches are either bad or out of adjustement.

Here is a picture of the switch. You can see the two wires going to it. This is in the down position. As the light goes up it hits the flat bracket and depresses the plunger and makes the light go out.

Default Head Light Indicator Light

Thanks Gordonm,
I will check this out, It looks like the plastic portion of the switches have opened up and are not opening the circuit when the head lights are up.

Be carefull with the switch. The plastic is very brittle. I ahd a hard time finding replacements. Had to get used ones. At the time I did mine I don't think rpros were available. But I think that someone is now supplying a repro version
