Default Power Antenna Conversion

Hello,

I stopped by the ZIP Corvette showroom on Friday and purchased a power antenna (A-309) and installation kit (A-364) for my '82. I spoke to a tech rep who said these were the parts needed to make the conversion as my car came factory with a fixed mast antenna. The wiring in my vehicle appears to have never been touched. I removed the rear storage bins and there is an ECM on battery side, and wiper pulse relay, but no radio relay on jack side. The instructions that came with the antenna are no help. What size screws do I need for the antenna mounting bracket included in the kit? Where does the black plastic grommet go? There is a 3 wire female connector on the jack side in the rear that has orange, black, and yellow wires. These wires appear to run under the console toward the radio. If I'm correct, these are the wires that the green, white, and gray wires from the install kit should connect to, right? Only problem is that the install kit wiring I purchased is male on one end that connects to the green, white, and gray female plug coming out of the new antenna housing and the other end is three loose wires (no plastic plug) that have female connectors soldered on. This wiring kit should be male/male to make this work, right? I've spent all weekend trying to figure this out and have given up. Please help.

You don't really need a relay.

one wire is constant hot

one wire runs to your stereo

one is ground

I'm not sure what power antenna you got but the wire colors sounds like the GM service raplacement type.
The orange, yellow and black wires in your car's harness would go to the relay in a power antenna equipted Vette. Orange is constant hot, yellow is the trigger that comes out of the radio, and black is ground. The relay WOULD be under the center arm rest all the way to the back.
The gray, white, and green wires on the antenna would hook up to the relay. Different hookups of those three wires is what makes the antenna go up and down. That's what the relay does.
So it sounds like you do need the relay if it's not there.

I have the GM service replacement type. I just located and purchased a relay since my 82 came with a fixed mast antenna. Where should the relay go in a 82? Some say it goes under the console, others say it goes in the rear storage area behind the passenger seat. My car does have a 3 wire female connector in the pass storage area. The wires are orange, yellow, and black. This connector is not hooked up to anything and these wires route back under the console in the direction of the radio.
