Finally started reassembling the steering column today after it all got painted. One thing I noticed before is that the turn signal lever still wants to move when you go to push down for a left hand turn. I guess it kind of rotates. It did this before so I installed a new turn signal switch in the column. Before you couldnt turn the left hand signal on at all, at least now it will work. Its a 78 with cruise and TT, do I need a new lever? I couldnt see anything wrong with the old one.....
Also, the hazard switch doesnt work, it didnt work before and still doesnt. Anybody know the deal?
Did you install the lever that goes on top on the turn signal on the left side. The piece has a round peg on the keft side of it that slides in a grove on the turn signal lever. It is not easy to install. Sounds to me that it might be out of place.
Is the turn signal lever moving the control when you move it up , or down. If not that is probably the problem.
Is the hazard switch lined up in the proper place. Push in , pull out.
It is stiff, but everything looks connected properly. The turn signal lever is bent inwards towards the driver at a slight angle and when you go to push down on it for a left hand turn, the whole lever will rotate and end up pointing downwards. It is not a major deal since the signals work but if you forget to twist the lever back into the upright position it looks like dog%%%t. It was doing this when I got the car and I dont want to spring for a new lever as I dont think anything is wrong with this one, plus it about a $120 for a new lever with cruise. Basically, you can twist the lever around like you are screwing it into the column if you want, but it is the press in type. Wish I had taken a pic of the end of it.
