Default 2004r shift adjustment

got the shifter cable hooked up today but when shift lever is pushed forward into park the linkage on the tranny still has one gear left I assume rev. How do I make an adjustment? I took the bracket back off to see if I could move it forward but the pan holes don't line up. Any suggestions before I call BTO again Thanks

I thought there was an adjustment of the cable into the bracket? I put the 2004R in my 1980 last winter.

I am watching this one ..... I am in the middle of rebuilding 200-r4 myself, have the shiftworks shifter installed with correct detent for 4 fwd gears ..... I don't think the indicator on shifter is lining up, but maybe I am getting ahead of myself, since I don't have tranny side of cable hooked up to anything yet

Did you have that issue or ?

I bought the shift cable bracket and shifter detent from BTO. Everything lines up and works for me. Place the trans and shifter in Park, then attach the cable to the trans and see if the bracket lines up with the pan bolts.

I did exactly that, as RedWing suggested and it all seems to line up except for indicator position is a little off. I think I can adjust the tab for indicator, and I think I might have to mod the shiftworks detent slightly, as it seems like it is just barely engaging 1st gear and it is as far back/down as shifter will go.

Just did mine last week. All lined up perfectly on my 72. Like mentioned, start by putting transmission linkage and the shifter in Park to line everything up, position the pan bracket over the pan bolts, bolt it onto the pan, then adjust the movable bolt on the BTO trans shifter linkage to fit the cable end over the little pin.

Default 1st gear?

Can you get the shifter down SOLID into 1st gear (all the way back)?

Mine seems like it barely catches, as the detent cut is a little bit too far forward and doesn't allow shifter far enough back.

I am going to verify this later this week, when I get to taking pan off and also getting TV cable adjusted.

I think that I will maybe have to take off the detent and grind 1st gear detent back a little ...... Not that I will use 1st too much, just like stuff to work like it is suppose to

3.73 rear, 2.74 1st gear is pretty decent for the street, makes a 10.22 final drive ratio .....

I had to modify mine slightly to make sure it engages properly.

Modified it, as in grinding it back a little, or what did you do?

Ok here is an update on what I had to do:

All the cabling, brackets etc was installed, everything lined up but I did have to align the shifter indicator pin AND take off the detent, and grind it a little so that 1st gear was accessable (far enough back). Put it all back in and it is now GOOD TO GO
