I will be installing my engine and TKO600 trannie as a unit shortly and am trying to determine the best jack stand position and hoist position for easily setting it in. In the past I have pulled the drivers side wheel and gone in fron the side but that takes a fair amount of jacking the motor and trannie around and I have scratched the engine bay paint and oil pan doing it this way. Is there a prefered or "easier" method and angle of attack? Jack stand positions? Floor jack? Hoist going in from front or side?
I went in from the front with a leveler. had both front wheels off and stands on the frame behind the A-arms. The car was approx 16 inches from the floor. went from the engine stand to bolted in by myself in 30 -45 minutes without scratching anything.
Thanks guys. I am going to go in from the front this time. Last time when I went from the side I had to jack the assembly around a lot and I was by myself so that made it harder. Hopefully going straight in will be the difference. Not sure if I will have a helper this time or not. I tend to get impatient and when I am ready to do it I want to right then.

Try a Happy Hooker?

I bought one of these engine pullers for my 4th gen camaro but have not tried it yet. I was made to allow removing the eng from a 4th gen from above rather than dropping with the K-member out the bottom of car. It can work with any application though.

I am somewhat this way Wade but I am very particular about who is leaning on my fenders so I wind up doing most myself. When I did my frame off I dissassembled the car by my self including removing the body. For reassembly a couple of very **** buddies helped me put my freshly painted body back on the chassis and hang the doors. Most of the rest I did myself.
I bought an engine hoist at Kragen Auto and found out that it was too short to go from the front so I had to go from the side. Took off the front wheel and had it up on jack stands. Did it by myself putting it in and then pulling it out a few times. Just have to take your time. Oh, I also cut my crossmember and made it removible. That help too. I installed the TKO 600. Almost ready to fire it up. Tony
What kind of cherry picker did you use? We tried pulling my engine/tranny together yesterday from the front, but the cherry picker was too short. How long is the one you have?

The snout of the car is so long that I had to start from the drivers side, inch it forward, set it back down on the crossmember, then reposistioned the engine hoist from the front for final removal.
Radiator had to be removed too. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2658106/2
