Diff front seal
I just had my rear differential rebuilt last season. Now the front seal is leaking. Everthing is wet under there. I'm sure the guy who rebuilt it would repair it but I am wondering. Is there anyway I can repair / replace the seal while it's on the car? I would sure hate to have to tear the exhaust, rear suspension, crossmember, etc. apart to get the rearend out, again. Everything is all new and working great, except for the leak. Could I drive and dragrace this season as long as I keep the fluid topped off? It's only a matter of time until something breaks and I"ll have to take it all apart again anyway. What do you think? Thanks guys
We have the instructions on our web site on how to do this on the car. It’s located under the repair and install help.
Go to the site, http://www.willcoxcorvette.com
Enter your year in the first box, select repair and install help from the second box, and then search for the word Pinion in the last box.
The only thing I see wrong on this is at the beginning of the installation section. It states to place a sealing compound around the OD of the seal before installing. All seals on the market have a coating on the outside of them that should seal perfectly.
You should also inspect the sealing area before installing the new seal for any defects in the sealing surface.
You can use sealer on the outer edge of the front pinion seal if you desire.
Hope this helps you,
Willcox Inc.
