Default Coolant drain plug question

I have removed the passenger side coolant drain plug successfully on my 70 454 but cannot get a socket on the drivers side plug. The motor mount is in the way. Is it necessary to remove the mount to get to the plug? If so, what the best way to safely support the engine when removing the mount and coolant plug?

Thanks,

Jordan

I personally wouldn't go through all of that. I suggest just opening the one side and, after using a cleaner, keep flushing until the water comes out clean. Then add approx. 2 gallons of coolant, enough to give you a 50/50 mixture, and then top it off with distilled water. This will work just as well. Do it every couple of years and your cooling system will appreciate it.

I ran into this yesterday on my 79s radiator drain plug. I just got a crescent wrench & bent that little lip straight down so I could get a socket on it.

Thanks for the replys. I think I'll take Jud's advice and flush the block leaving the drivers side plug in place until I' m ready to pull the engine for a rebuild some day.

Thanks again.
