I installed the 496 in the car this week and installed the headers tonight. The pass side header is really tight with the idler arm. I installed a new idler arm while the engine was out and I think it is bigger than the stock one.
How much clearance do I need? I don't know how much the engine moves side to side. The motor mounts appear to be stock and are rubber. I hate to have to pull the starter and header to dimple it.

Thanks.
YOu should be fine-turning side to side if its not hitting it dont worry about it.If all else fails and you dont want to dimple put moroso solid mounts in-thats what i got i guarantee it wont move then-just make sure to put a solid in trans also.
I had a similar problem with my '72. My issue was the bolts that hold the idler arm to the frame. One bolt was touching the header. I replaced the bolt with shorter ones and now all is well.
