Default Wiring Problem

Wiring problem on 79 model. I was trying to get my horn to work so i started checking the fuses the fuse that controls the horn and also the interior lights was blown. when I replaced the fuse the horn works but the gauges are pegged and the engine will not turn off. with the fuse in the wire going to the dist. has power to it all the time. with the fuse out it only has power with the switch on. any ideas.

Not sure on the '79, but on my '76, the horn power wire below the front edge of the hood shorted out and caused me all kinds of time and trouble before I figured out what was going on. You might get a '79 wiring diagram and see if it is the same setup because taking the hood on and off and putting foam or a blanket in that area (like I did) can break 30+ year old wires and cause shorts.

I think I figured it out. I think the problem is in the printed circuit of the center console gauges.
