Default 74 4 speed??

Went to the junk yard the other day noticed a complete 74 4-speed in the junk yard! Mine is a 76 auto; was wondering what would I need to convert my car to standard?? and is it possible?
Also price wise would be nice...

Look on this site under "TKO600 has arrived"there is a good visual of a conversion in there,he is using a 5speed but the auto to manual will give you an idea of what is entailed.

I converted my 75. I replaced the TH400 with a Muncie M22. Aside from the $$, there are two things that can be dicey. The transmission mount to the crossmember is different. My 75 has a removeable crossmember. I don't know about the 76. I fit everything up and removed the crossmember and welded on two tabs to support the mont. The second area is the bracket for the clutch bellcrank attachment to the frame. The correct bracket for the 75 welds to the frame but there is a later one that bolts on. I used the bolt on one and installed the linkage to locate the bolt holes. Then drilled and tapped holes.

After all was done and installed it's pretty cool.

Also, use a Hurst shifter. It attaches to the tranny not the bracket from the factory.

If your ging to all that work to convert to a stick, get a 5spd. My 4spd always seems to need one more gear.

...did my '75 three years ago for $1700. Even got a "correct dated" Super T-10.

...wish I would have done it many moons ago. Much, much funner to drive now.

...automatics are for women and real sports cars have manual transmissions.

From the junker you need
Bell crank and related hardware, springs, rods,
Clutch/brake peddle assembly
Console top
bell housing with fork
transmission
drive shaft
backup switch and wiring harness
might as well take the flywheel, it maybe OK with turning
starter

.....going from a Turbo 400 to a BorgWarner Super T10, no different driveshaft or transmission yoke is needed. Don't know if this is the same case for a Muncie trans or not.

...also, either a frame mounted Z-bar tab or the bolt in '80/'81 frame tab will need to be installed on the frame below the brake master cylinder.

...the manual transmission "frame extension piece" that goes between a manual transmission and the crossmember will be needed.

...will also have to jumper out your wiring from your safety neutral switch to bypass it so the starter gets power.

Paul where is the NSS(Neur Safe Swit)??? I orignally went there to LQQK for spare parts not realizing that this car wasn't only complete but with all the panels and everything still together. Does anyone sell a crossmember that helps the transfer...BTW how much would this conversion be as opposed to beefing up the auto?
