Default Water pump

So my wp is leaking, I went to my local parts store, the guy says there's two listed, one for the car with "heat" and one without...So I said well I have heat and we ordered that one, anyone have a clue what he's talking about? I don't want to get it to the shop, have them pull it, find out it's the wrong one...

Car's with heat, have a heater core, and need a nipple on the water pump for a heater hose that goes to the heater core. A non-heat car would probably not have that nipple.

So is it safe to assume that by ordering the one for a car with heat and that I have heat it's the right one? Don't all 74's have heat? Don't all Vette's have heat???

Thanks,

Kevin

Be careful because there are two different "short neck" water pumps. The one that has the 3/4 inch shaft is about 1/8 inch longer than the one which has a 5/8 inch shaft. Get the wrong one and you'll have belt alignment problems as well as fan clutch hub fit problems.

The way they're explaining it to me is that one is made that has an outlet to a heater core and one that doesn't have that....I ordered the one with...hmmm...

LarryWalk,

I just looked through Mid-America's catalogue (pg 132) the 55-70's have the 5/8" shaft & the 71-82 have the 3/4", I called the shop where I ordered from and it's the 3/4" so I'm going to roll the dice and believe that it's the right one...thanks for the heads up though!
