Just curious, does the '69 L-68 setup only use the one orange throttle return spring?

Hi

The secondaries smoothly opened.

That's a killer. The pods are vented to the secondaries as well. So if you apply vacuum to the hose that connects to the ctr carb, you might open the pods, but the vacuum will dump sooner or later into the 2ndaries. If that's not the case, your 2ndarie vent ports are clogged or blockked.

When I got my tripower setup, the vent ports where closed off by Bubba who tried to make the system work similar to the progressive linkage setup. It never worked right because the 2ndaries open far too early that way.

Only way to check if the 2ndaries open is on a test bed or disconnecting the 2ndaries, go on the highway and run in 4th gear to max possible RPM, probably around 4500 or so. Then reconnect the 2ndaries and trz again. If it pulls far over that, basically endless accelleration up to red line RPM, they work fine.

Rgds. Günther

If you hold the center carb throttle open and apply a constant vacuum the secondaries should open and then close when you stop the vacuum. Yes they will not hold a vacuum but this proves the mechanism and linkage work. It seems to me it proves the diaphragms are not rotted as well. I agree it does not prove they open while driving. However if they do not open when you suck on the vacuum hose they certainly will not open while driving.

My old original carbs are on the shelf and these are brand new not restored carbs from Holley, so bubba has never touched them…unless he works at holley.
