1978 horn problems

1978 horn problems
I am having a problem getting the horn to work on my 1978 vette.
This is what I know so far:
The horns, relay and wiring into the steering column all work. Its once in the column the problem seems to be. I have installed a new horn contact, spring retainer etc. I have power in the column, there is a ring with 3 brass contacts on it. On top of the contacts is an piece of plastic/foam to act as an insulator from the coil spring that goes up to the lower horn contact ring. It looks as if i may be missing a piece. Does anybody have an exploded view of all the column components. I have Haynes, GM workshop manual and numerour after market parts catalogs but cannot get anything that seems to help.
Any feedback will be graetly appreciated.
