Default torque values for the differential bolts?

i need the torque values for the 8 bolts that hold the two halves of the diff. together. according to my service manual here, it says 50lbs, but that doesnt seem right to me.

50LBS is good. My Chasis book shows 35-55LBS.

My Corvette Shop Manual 1966-1982 also shows 50LBS.

And my Haynes Book also shows 50LBS.

So throw that sucker on there lol.

Great to hear. I have been going through the same thing except it is only the start lol. But I feel that the back end is the hardest part and everything else should be gravy lol. But please do not kill the dream lol.

Everything is removed in the back and I do mean everything lol. Fuel tank,Trailing Arms the whole shabang lol. I just put my diff back in the car.

But I would like to say since you are there use the locating kit which is cheap and you might consider the mount to the snubber from the rubber to a solid mount. That way you never need to worry about the CLUNK lol. You can get the whole Kit from Gulstrand

im actually almost in the same spot as you right now. everything is out except for the gas tank. ive had that out more times then i care to think, but over the last two years ive replaced the entire fuel system, from the tank to the carb.

heres where im at right now.

my TAs are also stripped down as far as you can possibly go. im thinking those will either be relatively easy to put back together if i take my time, or itll be an absolute nightmare. after that though.... i can finally put my nice new VBP Grand Touring kit in.

i think your right though, the rear end does seem the worst. just looking at the front end and things dont look nearly as complicated.
