Ok, I have a 68vert 327/350 4spd. I was looking at getting the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires, but no locations nearby have them. What other tires are good? I was also wondering if I were to get a white "line" wall tire is there something I could use to color it red to make it look like a Red Line tire?
I believe the correct tire size is P215/70R15, as the original tires were bias-ply F70R15.
My 1st goal is to have a stock look, but also like the look of the raised white letters as 2nd option. Also price concious...
You certainly have the size correct. As far as what make tires, that's a real can of worms...we all have our likes and dislikes, so I can only speak of my personal experience.
I like the BFG Radial T/A and the Cooper Cobra if you like raised white letter tires. The Dunlop Radial GT Qualifier is also very good.
On my '69 I wanted white stripe tires since according to the window sticker and original bill of sale the car came with. I checked out a number available and decided on the Cooper Lifeliner Touring SLE tire. It had the best combination of quality...treadwear and traction ratings and cost.
There are tire coloring kits if you want to change the color of the stripe. I have no idea how good they are. You can get redline tires from Diamondback Tires or Coker Tires. The prices from each are comparable, but still expensive...at least twice the cost of a blackwall, white stripe or white letter tire.
