I'm getting this wild hair to buy a 70 or 71 coupe, something in Ok condition, and do a full frame-off on it. Don't know what the heck I'd be doing, but I'm game (I think!). Thought is to put a new crate engine into it (storing the original for "just in case" down the road).
Question: what is the "best" choice? I realize that can be a naively vague question, but work with me, I've been mainly a Blue Oval guy up to this point. Want big block, want fuel injection. Saw a 502 online, and that looks like an azz-kickr. Could have sworn I read a few months back in a mag that GM was coming out with some new engines that would really be well-suited for older-gen vettes.
Complete engines by GM are great. Every part is new and fresh. Your best bet. Be carefull of some of them as the cylinder heads are not the best. You must have adjustable rocker arms The 'Ram Jet 502' is one of the better ones....
