Just recently rebuilt my Carter AFB 9605 w/ an EDELBROCK rebuild kit (Carter AFB is mentioned on the box!!) Anyway, one setting that was WAY OFF according to the Edelbrock instructions was my float setting. Edelbrock recommends 11/32" with bowl cover inverted and gasket in place...mine was probably twice that, which would have meant a much lower float setting. I haven't pulled a plug yet, but I smell so much fuel, I thought there was an external leak!
Anyone know what Carter recommends??? One other thing...the repair kit came w/ "solid" needle & seat assemblies, while my O.E. part was "spring loaded"...any pros or cons with using either of these?
Thanks...what you guys know always amazes me :flag
Be careful. I just had a MASSIVE engine fire, thanks to a defective front Edelbrock carb on a NEW Edelbrock 2x4 setup. Don't use ANY plastic parts on the rebuild. The plastic accelerator pump shafts have a habit of sticking.
