Default Replacemnt Wiper arm

I installed a set of replacement wiper arms in my '73 and have a problem (ecklers Item# 44791).
The passenger side wiper arm hits the hood when the wipers are turned off and attempting to close. The part that hits is riveted onto the wiper arm and is a angled backwards "J" shape piece of metal that has two holes in it. I am thinking about cutting the piece off since the original wiper arm did not have such a piece attached to it.
Anyone experience this problem with the replacement wiper arms.

Get the AIM manual and goe thru the adjustment procedure. New arms need to be readjusted. You can't just put them in like many cars. There are too many variables that will not be the same from an old worn one to the new one.

I had a similar problem when I changed my wipers to aftermarket wiper head. I changed them to these, which sit lower, and the problem was gone. You may want to try these before cutting.

I notice the brand name is Trico, but have never heard of them, I need wiper arms that sit lower also. Where did you get the arms?

Stock Arms. I replaced the complete blade, first ones I got rubbed on coming up and storing. Tricos fixed that problem, the "exact fit" ones at least. Trico appears to be an amsoil brand. I've seen them since I can remember. Buy them at Kragens. available online:

The Tri-Continental Corporation was founded in 1917 to provide drivers with better visibility and introduced the first manually operated windshield wiper. Today, TRICO is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of wiper products and produces nearly one million wiper blades every week.

AMSOIL is partnered with Trico (and NGK, Wix, Donaldson, and Mothers) and carries the full line of Trico blades. Fitament for most cars can be looked up here:

I meant blades, I still have the stock arms, the top of the wiper blade just barely catches on the ledge of the hood. Thanks

trainmankjm, you might want to double check that the arms are pushed all the way down on the transmission mounts. That might lower them some more.

Yea, i had the same problem with an after market blade that was not the Tricos. I have the stock arms too. these blades (Tricos) fixed the rub on hood problem. If you look at the link, it is for a complete blade. good luck,, C.

Problem fixed. Installed the Trico blades and the drivers arms went down without hitting the hood. It seems the fancy 3 blade teflon wiper blade I bought with the replacement arms from Ecklers sit higher than the original.

Had the same problem (replacement arm hitting the hood), so I kept the original arm and replaced just the rubber blade....slid the old one out and slid the new one in. No probs

Don't get sucked in with the hype associated with the new fangeled blades. you know triple blades and the such . A good trico blade will work in most circumstances.( Winter blades included)
