Default 71 Fuel Seperator issue

I have looked through the threads and found some info on this but was curious.....My car has no canister up front.the victim of a front end collision and crappy repair apparently..the lines are still there from the tank and plugged. I was getting fuel leaking down onto the driver side muffler and while doing a frame on restoration of the suspension drive train, I decided to drop the tank and see whats going on. The fuel Seperator has been repaired but leaks. I was curious about the ones available for $50 reproductions if they are good or should I try to re-epoxy this one? For all I know its a reproduction.. The tank has a sticker says it was made in Canada and has the little round triangle emblem.no tank sticker..Is this a repro? Lots on this car is actually original.

Also..should I find a canister and try to replace the vapor system? or is there a decent way to work around this. I would note, that on my fuel gauge when it seemed close to empty, I only was able to put approximately 13 gallons of gas in. I never got close to filling it to 20 gallons even when I thought it was an empty tank. Obviously I have a problem with the sender perhaps? I understand the canister was to help reduce the vapor smell. Thanks for your help...next is my questions on removing my busted AC evaporator to get to the heater core...I dont know ..can you have heat in a 71 AC car without the AC mechanisms in place?

Last big question..they say you can take everything off if there is no Vapor Can and plug the gas tank on the Vapor can, Drivers side, as long as you use a vented gas cap. The older threads recommend the GM vented cap that says it is for the 63-69 vette..does anyone know if this cap will fit the tank on a 1971?

The only cap listed for the 71 is a sealed cap like the one I have. There is no cross reference listed that I can find. Thanks.

The 63-69 vented cap will fit your tank's neck. You can see the line that needs to be plugged in this picture. This is an original 71 tank.
Regards,
Alan
