If you follow Jim's paper you will have no problem.

Can I get a 78 and up Tilt wheel to fit in a 69? ..How much mods would have to take place if it would or can be made to fit? Sorry if this is a repeat thread.. Signed Fatso

I know there are issues like the turn sig. horn sw. compatability with 69 harness vs new. I am thinking about trying to get my 69 steering wheel harness to work in the late model. I have a two bolt mount under my dash. I would like to try it..

I think that a 1977 column should bolt into an early C3. The 1978 through 1982 column should fit if you cut back the shroud as described in the paper in order to get it to clear the instrument cluster.
Here is a picture of the problem. It does not look that the shroud was modified in this picture.
Here is a sketch of the rework of the shroud.
One other person actually spaced the column mounting down by about an inch to gain clearance to the instrument cluster. However, I would think that even with the column tilted up it will still place the steering wheel almost in your lap and the column into your knees as you try to exit the car.

Similar Question....tilt in a 68'
I posted a thread the other day on this, but still have a couple of questions and need the group's guidance... I have a 75' tilt/tele column that I am putting into a 68' vert. I don't want to move the ignition from the dash and plan to remove the ignition assembly from the 75' column. I read Jim Shea's paper on the 77 tilt installation, but it did not address the 68.
Here are my questions (I apologize if repetitive...)
1. What mods are necessary for the column to fit?
2. Can I remove the ignition assembly, neutral safety, etc, from the 75?
3. Will the plastic sleeve from the original 68' straight fit over the 75'?

There are a lot more problems trying to install a 2nd gen T&T column (1969-82) into a 1968. The two aluminum capsules on the 1969+ mounting bracket under the steering column do not line up with any of the three mounting surfaces under the dash for the 1968 column.
The 1968 column was a lot smaller in diameter as it passed through the instrument cluster than the 1969+ column.
